1. Who We Are
Mabel ("we," "us") provides a text-message service that explains documents and messages in plain English for adults 65+ and their families. This policy describes how we handle personal information for the Mabel website and SMS service (the "Service"). Contact: support@textmabel.com.
2. Information We Collect
- Signup information: name, email address, and the mobile number enrolled in the Service, plus a record of your SMS consent (what you agreed to and when).
- Content you submit: text messages, questions, and photos of documents you send to the Mabel number, and our responses.
- Billing information: subscription status and payment history. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never receive or store your full card number.
- Technical information: basic message delivery metadata from our telecommunications provider (e.g., delivery status, timestamps).
3. How We Use Information
- To provide the Service — generating plain-English explanations of the content you send us, with the assistance of AI technology.
- To manage subscriptions, billing, receipts, and customer support.
- To send service messages (welcome, help, opt-out confirmation, billing and service notices).
- To maintain safety, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations, including telecommunications compliance records.
- To improve the Service using aggregated or de-identified information that does not identify you.
4. What We Do NOT Do
- We do not sell or rent personal information.
- No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, except as necessary to deliver the Service (e.g., our messaging provider).
- We do not use the content of your messages for advertising.
- We do not contact the people in the documents you send us.
5. Service Providers
We share information only with service providers who need it to operate the Service on our behalf, under their own privacy and security obligations:
- Telecommunications/messaging (e.g., Twilio) — to send and receive text messages.
- AI processing — submitted content is processed by our AI provider to generate responses. We use providers whose terms prohibit using our customers' data to train their models.
- Payments (Stripe) — to process subscriptions.
- Data storage and workflow tools — to store account records and route messages securely.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of users or others, or in connection with a business transfer (in which case this policy continues to apply to previously collected data).
6. Data Retention
We keep account and consent records for as long as your subscription is active and as required for legal and telecommunications compliance afterward. Message content is retained only as long as needed to provide the Service and for quality and safety review, after which it is deleted or de-identified. You may request deletion at any time (Section 8).
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please avoid texting full account numbers, Social Security numbers, or passwords — the Service does not need them to explain a document.
8. Your Choices and Rights
- Stop messages: reply STOP to any text. Reply HELP for help at any time.
- Cancel billing: use the link in your Stripe receipt or email us.
- Access, correction, deletion: email support@textmabel.com and we will honor your request within 30 days, subject to records we must keep by law. Depending on your state of residence, you may have additional rights (such as access, deletion, correction, and portability); we honor these requests for all users regardless of state.
9. Children
The Service is designed for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by text and/or email before they take effect, and the "Last updated" date above will change. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
